ColorGauge Charts

A miniature colour chart on an anodized-aluminium mount — 18 colour patches matching the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker layout plus 12 spectrally neutral grey patches for evaluating exposure and white balance in macro photography.

  • 18 colour patches in the same layout as the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker
  • 12 spectrally neutral grey patches for exposure and white-balance evaluation
  • Aircraft-grade anodized-aluminium mount with patches set below the surface for damage protection
  • Two surface finishes — gloss (extended dynamic range) and matte (for narrow illumination geometries)

ColorGauge is a miniature colour chart used to evaluate colour accuracy, exposure and white balance in cameras, lenses and vision systems. It carries 18 colour patches in the same layout as the popular GretagMacbeth ColorChecker, plus 12 additional spectrally neutral grey patches specifically intended for assessing correct exposure and white balance in close-up and macro photography.

The patches are mounted on an aircraft-grade anodized-aluminium plate and set below the top surface of the mount, protecting them from mechanical damage during everyday use in lab and production environments.

Key features

  • Gloss version — grey patches with an extended dynamic range (density ~2.4), suited to measuring imager noise; specular reflections may occur at illumination geometries narrower than 45°/0° without crossed polarizers
  • Matte version — grey patches with a lower dynamic range (density ~1.6), better suited to narrow illumination geometries such as endoscopic imaging or direct on-camera flash; not recommended for evaluating imager noise in high-magnification applications, as the matte surface can be misread as noise
  • 18 colour patches — layout matching the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker
  • 12 grey patches — for exposure and white-balance evaluation

Applications

ColorGauge is used to calibrate and test cameras, lenses and vision systems — evaluating colour accuracy, correct exposure and white balance, particularly in close-up and macro photography.
